I am a person who
extremely loves to eat chocolate. Every time that I eat many chocolate, my mom
always warns me that eating chocolate too much can cause acne. At first, I
don’t believe what my mom warns me. But over time, I am warned more and more so
I begin to doubt that “Does chocolate really cause acne?”
After
I have a question, the first thing that I do is searching the information from
the internet. I find the interesting information showed me that chocolate can’t
cause acne from the research of Dr. Albert Kligman. From the Dr. Albert
Kligman’s research, Dr. Albert Kligman gave teens with acne real chocolate
bars, and others chocolate-free bars that tasted like chocolate. Neither group
knew which candy bars were fake. "The variation in the acne and induction
of acne lesions was no greater in the chocolate group than in the nonchocolate
group."
I
quite to believe that chocolate can’t cause acne but I want to be sure that
chocolate can’t cause acne. So I had established the experiment to re-check the
research of Dr. Albert Kligman and make sure my question is answered
scientifically.
In my experiment, I
found six people who are willing to eat the chocolate and they are all in the
same age which is 18 years old. And then, I divided them into 2 groups; there
are 3 people in each group. One group, I gave the real chocolate, milk
chocolate, that had a shape as same as a candy and another group I gave
chocolate-free candy. In chocolate-free candy, I added synthesis flavor of the
chocolate. Nobody knew that the candy which I gave was a fake chocolate candy. .Both
of them, I gave real chocolate and fake chocolate 3 times. I did the experiment
for 1 week.
Real Chocolate
The
data was collected by noticing and measuring the acne on the face of
volunteers. Before I started the experiment, I took a photo of the face of
volunteers and measured the number of acne. After I started the experiment, I
took a photo of the face of volunteers and measured the number of acne after
they ate real chocolate or fake chocolate in the evening. When the experiment
finished, I compile all of the data that was
collected and fill in the table. And then I analyze the different of the two
groups.

In the result of
this experiment, there is no different that is significant from the two groups.
In the first group; group that I give real chocolate; in the last day of the experiment
all of them still have the acne as same as or almost the same of the first day
of the experiment. The result of the second group is as same as the first
group. In the last day of the experiment all of them still have the acne as
same as or almost same the first day of the experiment.
In conclusion,
chocolate doesn’t cause the acne. But the acne
can cause when the oil glands make too much sebum, a waxy substance
that along with dead skin cells can clog pores. Bacteria grow and irritate the
blocked pores, giving the red and swollen look to them. Too much harsh washing
can further inflame the area. So, this science myth is false.
